Burger King International (BKI) is leading the way in the
food industry through a partnership with EFSIS, the independent third-party
inspection and certification service. EFSIS will now manage BKI’s quality
assurance process throughout its total supply chain in the European Union,
ensuring all suppliers are assessed to equally high standards. Certification
to EFSIS or BRC (British Retail Consortium) equivalent standards is now
an obligatory requirement for any supplier, including core raw materials,
to the BURGER KING® system.
BKI is the first Quick Service Restaurant operator worldwide
to support industry and governmental initiatives by adopting, to the letter,
globally recognised food safety and supplier inspection standards such
as those led by EFSIS, the BRC or the Global Food Safety Initiative. The
EFSIS standard fully incorporates the requirements of the BRC standard,
one of the highest in the food industry.
Susana Fernandez, BKI’s Director of Safety remarks, “Over
the years, it has been our policy to source only from highly reputable
suppliers fully committed to food safety and quality. Now all new suppliers,
or existing suppliers for new production lines or facilities, will have
to secure BRC or EFSIS certification before they can supply the BURGER
KING® system. We continuously strive to improve standards and in the future
we may also include other certification initiatives.”
“This initiative puts BURGER KING® in the forefront of whole
supply chain assurance”, says Carole Payne, Food Director of EFSIS. “It
is a tremendous vote of confidence in EFSIS, already the leading provider
of certified supplier inspections throughout the world. BKI has chosen
us because we can ensure the best possible total supply chain assurance
system, guaranteeing its customers the highest standards of food safety,
hygiene and quality management.”
