BURGER KING‚ to back Norwich City Council litter initiative |
Norwich, 13 July 2004
BURGER KING‚ today announced its BK ‘Litter Patrol’ project,
designed to ensure a litter-free area outside its newly opened St. Stephen’s
Street restaurant. As part of its continued investment in Norwich, the
BK ‘Litter Patrol’ will support Norwich City Council’s ‘Norwich Belongs
To All Of Us’ campaign launched to combat the litter problem facing residents
and businesses.
Specifically designed for the St. Stephen’s Street BURGER
KING‚, the BK ‘Litter Patrol’ will consist of two members of staff periodically
patrolling the public area outside its new restaurant to clean up debris
and litter left by customers and pedestrians.
“We are pleased that BURGER KING‚ is taking action to clear
up the litter. We are keen to encourage and work with other businesses
to make Norwich a litter free city,” said Norwich City Councillor Diana
Lowe, executive member of technical services. “We are improving the way
we tackle litter, with more bins and better street cleaning equipment.
It would be really good if everyone followed the BURGER KING‚ lead, after
all Norwich belongs to all of us!”
“We are eager to show that BURGER KING‚ can make a positive
impact on the issue of litter around Norwich City Centre,” said Lamen
Reddy, Operations Manager Cairnserve Ltd, Burger King franchisee. “Some
would expect a new convenience food restaurant to add to the litter problem,
but we want to prove that this will not be the case. Norwich is a beautiful
city and we hope that the BK Litter Patrol will help keep it that way.”
The St. Stephen’s Street restaurant, the third BURGER KING‚
in Norwich, opened in May and created more than 30 jobs for the area.
BURGER KING‚ now has more than 700 restaurants open nationwide offering
a wide choice of special offers and meal deals, including great value
Kids Meals, the full WHOPPER‚ range, flame-grilled sandwiches and chicken,
fish and vegetarian burgers.
